New Year, New..... Photographs!
Happy New Year everyone!!! Phew, I think we are all ready for a breath of fresh air. Speaking of, there is no better time in Sonoma County to breathe in that fresh air than SPRING! Get ready for some super practical tips on how to get ready for your spring photo shoot. Mustard fields.... fresh green grass,... rolling hills... this is the time to capture this moment of your life!
What to Wear
LAYER, LAYER, LAYER.
Remember, even though it isn't winter anymore, it can still get chilly at sunset. Besides practical reason, a jean jacket over a spring dress or a slouchy sweater over a fitted outfit earn major style points! And moms, you aren't the only one that can add on a cute piece. Toss a cardigan on your kiddos and vest on Dad. The options are endless.
Layers are fashionable, practical and they even give you something to do with your hands. Imagine your kids cuddling into your soft sweater or you pulling your partner in for a kiss by his lapel. Trust me...layers are good.
See if you can get each family member wearing one element of a different material. Did I hear corduroy,
velour, linen, satin, denim??? Different textiles make for interesting focal points for your session and help each individual stand out while you're all together.
Remember the old adage "April Showers Bring May Flowers"? Well, sometimes the gorgeous Sonoma County backdrops are, well, still a bit soggy. This may be the time for some practical footwear. Bring on the booties! No need to wear rain boots, but just keep in mind that the ground may not be as forgiving if you were to pick high heels. As a final note, never stress over the kids... barefoot babies always make for amazing photographs.
Consider adding a hat, a scarf, or even a bow tie. Simple accessories like these add a pop of interest to the image... Just check out this stunning mama-to-be... need I say more?
The DON'T List
Ok, so last but not least, a few things to try to avoid. First, the hills are so lush and green this time of year (thank goodness for that!) Keeping this in mind, bright green clothing is best to be avoided so that you don't melt into the landscape. A muted, simple green like this sweet girl (below) is wearing works perfectly! Secondly, it's best to stay away from bright, vivid colors in the spring. With the sun already so bright, vibrant colors tend to reflect off of faces. Stick with more natural, soft colors so YOUR beauty can be the focal point.
